  • Brandy

    Technician

Brandy is a Registered Veterinary Technician, licensed in the state of Louisiana.  She has lived most of her life in Marrero.  As a child she was always surrounded by pets, and at the age of 13, she worked as a Veterinary Assistant in Columbus, GA, while spending the summer there with her aunt.  She witnessed her first euthanasia there, and although the doctor was very compassionate with the owners, she often wondered if there was any more that could be done for their pet.  Brandy has worked here since age 17, except for a couple of years, due to Hurricane Katrina.
After her first year here, she realized that she wanted to take her career further.  In 2000, began pursuing a degree in Veterinary Medicine, but due to Katrina, a husband, and a new baby, changed her career path. She took five semesters of classes in Early Childhood Education, and eventually found that this was not her calling.  She wanted to work with animals.
She eventually earned her degree as a Registered Veterinary Technician from Delgado Community College, and received the Clinical Excellence Award from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.
As a RVT, Brandy helps with taking clinical historys of patients, prepares vaccinations, collects blood , urine , and cytology samples, performs laboratory tests, places I.V. catheters, takes x-rays, administers anesthesia/medications, monitors patients during surgery and hospitalization, performs dental cleaning and exams in sedated patients, and cares for boarding patients.
Brandy is married, and has one daughter, six cats , two dogs, and two rabbits.
In her spare time she likes gardening, exercising, reading, watching football and movies, and spending time with family and friends.
